5 Signs Your Soffit and Fascia Need Replacing
Soffit and fascia protect your roofline from water and pests. These are the five signs it is time to replace rather than patch.
Soffit and fascia rarely get attention until something goes wrong — and by then the damage is often behind the boards rather than on them.
1. Peeling or bubbling paint
Paint lifts when moisture is trapped underneath. On fascia boards, that usually means water is running behind the gutter instead of into it.
2. Soft or crumbling wood
Press a screwdriver gently into the board. If it sinks in, the wood is already rotting and a repaint will not save it.
3. Sagging or gapped soffit panels
Gaps invite birds, wasps and rodents straight into the attic. Once nesting starts, insulation damage follows quickly.
4. Water stains in the attic or on interior ceilings
Stains near the exterior walls often trace back to a failed fascia and gutter connection, not the roof itself.
5. Visible daylight from inside the attic
Any light coming through at the eaves means the envelope is open to weather.
Repair or replace?
Spot repairs make sense when the damage is isolated and the surrounding boards are sound. Once rot spreads along a run — or the same section has been patched before — full replacement in aluminum or vinyl is the cheaper long-term choice.
We handle soffit, fascia, gutters and siding as one system, so the transition is sealed properly the first time. Book a free estimate and we will assess the roofline.
